Overview
Visiting the numerous museums around Tanzania is perhaps the best and easiest way to learn about the captivating history of Tanzania and the fascinating way of life of its people. Tanzania has quite a few museums, the most important one, arguably, is the National Museum of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam which was built in 1940 and expanded in 1963. The museum has quite a wide range of exhibits, from ancient rock paintings to a million years old footprints of the earliest man. Most of the important discoveries from Olduvai Gorge and other places in Tanzania are exhibited here. Makumbusho Village Museum on the other hand offers a rather different facet of the country’s culture. The open(outdoor) museum has traditional buildings from 18 of the ethnic tribes in Tanzania which gives tourists a lovely opportunity to experience the culture of Tanzania’s people in one area.
