Overview
A lesser famous destination in the Southern Circuit is Mikumi National Park. the park is better known by residents for its scenic landscape and abundant wildlife, but mostly because it is easily accessible. Together with the neighboring Selous Game Reserve, they form a unique ecosystem. Spanning over 3230km², the savannah landscape features open horizons, scenic plains, and baobabs. It is home to elephants, zebras, kudu, black antelope, baboons, lions and more. The park is also home to more than 400 bird species. The highest spot in the park is Malundwe mountain’s south peak, which is 1,290 meters above sea level. Together with Udzungwa Mountains National Park and Ruaha National park which are closest attraction to Mikumi National park, they are part of the Southern Safari Circuit.
