Overview

Explore Mikumi National Park on a Short Safari from Dar es Salaam

Experience a pocket of the wild just hours from Tanzania’s bustling coastal city. This 2 nights Mikumi safari offers the perfect quick escape into the African bush, designed for travelers who want a true wildlife experience with limited time. Travel from Dar es Salaam to
Mikumi National Park
in a private 4x4 vehicle, enjoy a scenic drive through the Tanzanian countryside, and encounter iconic wildlife on game drives through the park’s rich savannah ecosystem.

Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or adding a short safari to a longer coastal holiday, this adventure combines accessibility, authentic game viewing, and comfortable midrange lodge accommodation.

From City to Safari: Your Journey Begins

Depart early from Dar es Salaam and set off on a scenic 6–7 hour drive to Mikumi National Park. Watch the landscape shift from coastal towns to sisal plantations, mountains, and open bush as you enter southern Tanzania’s wild heart.

Upon arrival at the park, check in at your midrange lodge nestled near the entrance, take a brief rest, and gear up for your first game drive in the golden light of late afternoon.

Mikumi National Park: Big Game, Wide Skies

Mikumi National Park is known as the “little Serengeti” for good reason. Its broad Mkata floodplain attracts elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo in large numbers, often trailed by lions and hyenas. Look out for giraffes moving gracefully through the trees, hippos wallowing in pools, and troops of baboons near the roadsides.

Though often overlooked, Mikumi’s accessibility and wildlife density make it an underrated gem for safari lovers. The park is also home to over 400 bird species, from lilac-breasted rollers to ground hornbills.

With a bit of luck, you might spot a leopard perched in a tree or a herd of elephants crossing the plains.

Overnight Comfort in the Bush

Spend the night at a charming midrange lodge near the park, offering comfortable ensuite rooms, hot showers, and a peaceful bush setting. Enjoy dinner under the stars, listen to the night sounds of the wild, and fall asleep knowing more adventure awaits the next day.

Sunrise Game Drive & Return to Dar es Salaam

Begin your second day with a sunrise game drive — arguably the best time to see predators on the move. Watch the park come alive as animals begin to stir and the soft morning light filters through the acacia trees.

After a hearty breakfast back at the lodge, start the return journey to Dar es Salaam, arriving by late afternoon. Expect to be dropped off at your preferred location — whether home, hotel, or airport — with a camera full of wildlife memories.

🔹 Our prices explained +

Our safari prices are carefully calculated to offer the best value for money while maintaining high standards of safety, comfort, and service. Prices may vary based on the following factors:

Travel season
Safari prices are higher during peak wildlife seasons (June–October and festive holidays) due to increased demand and higher lodge and park fees. Traveling in shoulder or green seasons offers better value with fewer crowds.

Group size
All our safaris are conducted in a private 4×4 safari vehicle with a professional guide. Smaller groups have a higher per-person cost because vehicle and guide expenses are shared among fewer travelers, while larger groups benefit from better per-person value.

Park fees and conservation costs
National park entry fees, crater service fees, and government taxes are fixed costs set by authorities and can change by season or park.

Accommodation selection
Lodge and camp prices vary by season, location, and availability. Migration camps, crater-rim lodges, and beachfront resorts naturally cost more than standard options.

Private safari experience
Unlike shared group tours, our prices reflect a fully private safari experience, allowing flexibility in pace, routing, and wildlife viewing — without compromise.

We price our safaris to ensure fair compensation for our guides, well-maintained vehicles, and reliable operations, while offering travelers an authentic, memorable safari experience.

If you’re traveling with children, in a larger group, or have flexible travel dates, we’re happy to tailor the best possible value for your safari.
